See Guy Chambers’ brand new folk opera The Selfish Giant, based on the classic Oscar Wilde children’s story of the same name.
As part of the Classic Spring Oscar Wilde season at the Vaudeville Theatre, three-time BRIT and Ivor Novello award-winning composer Guy Chambers has created an enchanting play that will delight young and old alike.
The magical musical tells the story of The Selfish Giant who bans the local children from playing in his beautiful garden. Building a tall wall to protect the grass and flowers, the Giant hopes to keep others out, not realising it’s not just people he’s preventing from entering. When winter comes and never leaves, the Giant doesn’t know what to do. Could the pesky children be the answer he’s looking for?
Guy is famed for writing number one songs for Robbie Williams, including Angels, Feel and Let Me Entertain You. He’s also collaborated with Kylie Minogue, Rufus Wainwright, Mark Ronson and Diana Ross.
The Selfish Giant is directed by Bill Buckhurst. Bill’s production of Sweeney Todd is currently playing on Broadway, directly from its run on the West End.
Jeff Nicholson (ENO’s Sweeney Todd and Urinetown) will play the titular character of Giant. With Laila Zaidi, Rose Shalloo, Izuka Hoyle, Natasha Cottriall and Laura Sillett starring alongside Jeff, and young actors Scott Sutcliffe, Jacob Fisher and Olly Dobson playing Boy.
The cast will be joined on stage by a live band filled with exceptional musicians, giving the production a unique concert-staging. Be transported to another plane thanks to an outstanding score and mesmerising performances. But be quick, as there are only seven performances.
