Helen has spent 15 years transforming her house into a haven of light and colour against the desolate South African plains. But, following an accident, a darkness is setting in. The deeply religious community, which has always been offended by Helen’s sculptures, refuses to help her in her time of need.
When the local minister urges she move from her home to be cared for, an idealistic young friend is suspicious of his motives and fights for Helen’s right to remain in her personal Mecca. Over one night, Helen is forced to make a decision that will determine the rest of her life.
The Road To Mecca was hailed as one of the best plays of the 1980s by Time magazine.
