Matthew Bourne’s new ballet production of The Red Shoes receives an eight week Christmas season at Sadler’s Wells, following one girl’s dream to be the greatest dancer in the world.
Based on the Academy Award-winning film and the beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, The Red Shoes is a tale of obsession, possession and ambition. It centres on Victoria Page (portrayed by Ashley Shaw), a young woman who lives to dance, but whose meteoric rise becomes a battleground for the two men who inspire her.
With a new score arranged by Terry Davies based on the Hollywood score by Bernard Herrmann, and with direction and choreography from the internationally-lauded Bourne, this is a mesmeric, intoxicating drama of life imitating art – with tragic, desperate consequences.
A show which promises to dazzle, dizzy and break hearts.
