David Suchet and Brendan Coyle lead this riveting revival of Arthur Miller’s familial drama The Price, nominated for Best Revival at the 2019 Olivier Awards with Mastercard.

Reprising their roles from the Theatre Royal Bath run of this production, which played to huge audience and critical praise in Summer 2018, Suchet (also nominated for the Best Actor Olivier, and best known for portraying Hercule Poirot) and Coyle (Mr Bates in Downton Abbey) will portray Gregory Solomon and Victor Franz respectively.

The Price follows two brothers, Victor (Coyle) and Walter Franz.  Victor is a New York cop approaching retirement; Walter, a successful surgeon. Having long since gone their separate ways, the two are reunited when they are called to sell their family furniture in the attic of a condemned New York brownstone.

But as they sift through the memories, revelation follows cutting relevation, and both brothers come to realise the true price they have paid over generations. Anchoring this psychological maelstrom, veteran appraiser Greogry Solomon (Suchet) secure the best possible price for the possessions – and in doing so overcome his own creeping demons.

Adrian Lukis (Walter Franz, in a role which also saw him Olivier Award-nominated) and Sara Stewart (Esther Franz, Victor’s wife) also return to their roles.

First seen on Broadway in 1968, The Price received two subsequent Tony Award nominations including Best Play. This 50th anniversary production follows hot on the heels of an acclaimed New York revival in 2017, starring Mark Ruffalo and Danny DeVito.

A richly affecting play which mines Miller’s preoccupation with the perils of the American Dream, this new production is directed by Jonathan Church, and plays at Wyndham’s Theatre following a hugely acclaimed run at Theatre Royal Bath.
