Hugh Dennis, Lesley Garrett and John Marquez play a cast of thousands in a comedy of biblical proportions, The Messiah, at The Other Palace.
Billed as the funniest and most magical nativity you’ll see this winter, The Messiah arrives at the Victoria venue at the culmination of a UK tour, telling the hilarious story of three masterful performers travelling the country to enact the greatest story ever told.
And between them, the absurdly talented Maurice Rose (Dennis), the alarmingly unpredictable Ronald Bream RAC (Marquez), and the operatic diva Mrs Doreen Small (Garrett), all conjure up the sublime, the ridiculous – and the truly angelic.
Featuring Joseph, Mary, Archangel Gabriel, Herod, God – and an ox – The Messiah is a vibrant comedy from the pen of Patrick Barlow, the ingenious playwright behind the Olivier Award-winning parody of The 39 Steps.
Leading the cast, beloved comic Dennis returns to the stage for the first time in two decades, having starred in BBC2’s panel show Mock The Week and BBC1’s hilarious show Outnumbered. Garrett, meanwhile, has been a hugely successful classically trained soprano for more than 30 years, while Marquez is best known for his role as PC Joe Penhale in the hit ITV Comedy series, Doc Martin.
Following engagements in Birmingham, Cardiff, Sheffield, Cheltenham, Chichester and Richmond, The Messiah finally arrives in London in December, bringing with it a love letter to theatre, theology, the great man himself – and a touch of the divine.
