A searing and mesmeric exploration of power, control, death and life, Henrik Ibsen’s late masterpiece The Master Builder is brought to life in this new lively adaptation by David Hare.
Ralph Fiennes stars as Halvard Solness, a master architect who has spent his lifetime building the tallest spires in the land. But when Hilde, a radiant country girl, descends unexpectedly into his world, age is confronted by youth, and a series of revelations builds to a vertiginous climax.
Fiennes returns to the London stage following his performance as Jack Tanner in the National Theatre’s 2015 production of Man And Superman. While the actor has appeared extensively on stage, he is probably best known for his numerous screen roles, which have seen him star in films including The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Reader, The English Patient and the Harry Potter films.
