Alan Bennett’s The Madness Of George III comes to the West End following a season at the Theatre Royal Bath and a UK tour.

One of Bennett’s (The History Boys, The Habit Of Art), biggest hits, The Madness Of George III premiered at the National Theatre in 1991 and was adapted into a film in 1994.

In this new production David Haig plays George III, the third Hanoverian king of Great Britain. In spite of a catalogue of accomplishments, he is best remembered for his  bouts of unbridled lunacy. Subjected to the appallingly cruel medical treatment of the day and assailed by power struggles between politcians and his scheming son, George remains an intensely sympathetic character, melancholy, moving, witty and finally triumphant.
