A compassionte story with drama and wit, The Lion’s Face follows four characters who are touched in different ways by memory loss and ageing. The opera begins with one apparently trivial event – a man forgets his own birthday – but it proves to be the beginning of something of overwhelming significance. Moving and heartfelt, this new opera explores a retreat into an inner world in which the patient’s ability to communicate with the world diminishes with the loss of perception and language.
