Olivier Award winner Marianne Elliott directs this highly anticipated new musical featuring a score by Tori Amos.
A dark fairy tale about grief, rebellion and power, The Light Princess tells the story of prince and a princess from opposing kingdoms, both of whom have lost their mothers. Unable to cry, Althea became light with grief, floated and was locked away, while Digby became so heavy-hearted that he could never smile and trained as a warrior.
One day, Digby declares war and Althea is forced out of hiding. But, in defiance of her father, she escapes only to encounter the solemn prince on contested land. Beside a lake the warring heirs begin a passionate and illicit affair. But for Althea to find real love, she must first confront the world’s darkness and face her own deepest fears.
Rosalie Craig and Nick Hendrix lead the cast as Althea and Digby.
Best known for her work on National Theatre hits War Horse and The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, director Elliott is joined in the creative team by Curious Incident’s lighting designer and choreographer Paule Constable and Steven Hoggett.
