The Late Middle Classes is Simon Gray’s funny, melancholic and captivating play about a young boy trapped between two types of oppressive love, which reveals the frustration, secrets and guilt of middle class respectability in 1950s England.

Celia is bored to distraction; Charles is obsessed with his work; and their son is having his first lessons in music and in life.

This new Donmar Warehouse production of The Late Middle Classes stars Helen McCrory, who returns to the venue where she has previously appeared in Old Times, Twelfth Night, Uncle Vanya, In A Little World Of Our Own and How I Learned To Drive.

Playwright Simon Gray, who died in 2008, wrote 40 plays, screenplays and adaptations, among them Otherwise Engaged, The Common Pursuit, The Old Masters, The Last Cigarette and The Late Middle Classes.

David Leveaux, who has previously directed The Real Thing, Nine and Electra at the Donmar, returns to the venue to direct The Late Middle Classes.
