Following international acclaim and awards for the hit film, The King’s Speech comes to the stage.

Written as a play before it became an Academy Award and BAFTA-winning film, The King’s Speech tells the story of how King George VI conquered his debilitating stammer with the help of maverick speech therapist Lionel Logue.

Where Colin Firth played George VI in the screen version of The King’s Speech, Charles Edwards takes on the role of the monarch on stage. Edwards previously played the lead role of Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps both in the West End and on Broadway, but was most recently seen entertaining audiences at Shakespeare’s Globe, where he starred in Much Ado About Nothing in 2011.

Royal Shakespeare Company veteran Jonathan Hyde joins Edwards in The King’s Speech to play Logue, while Emma Fielding (Cranford) plays Queen Elizabeth, better known to many as the Queen Mother.

The King’s Speech arrives at the Wyndham’s theatre following a world premiere at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud theatre and a UK tour.
