After the huge sucess of the film, David Seidler’s original play of The King’s Speech finally comes to the stage in a production which is touring the UK prior to the West End.
Charles Edwards follows in Colin Firth’s footsteps by taking on the role of King George VI, who employed the services of maverick Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (Jonathan Hyde) to help him conquer his debilitating stutter.
Seidler’s story, based on the diaries of Logue himself, was one of 2010’s most successful films, winning four Academy Awards and seven BAFTAs.
Edwards played the role of Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps in the West End and on Broadway. He was most recently seen playing Benedick in Shakespeare’s Globe’s production of Much Ado About Nothing in 2011.
The King’s Speech is directed by the former Artistic Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Adrian Noble.
