The intimate candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse hosts The Inn At Lydda, a play which charts the remarkable journey of the Roman Emperor Tiberius Caesar on an epic voyage to meet Jesus in the Holy Land and have his mortal ailment cured.
In this play penned by the Honorary Curator of Rare Books for Shakespeare’s Globe, John Wolfson, a slowly dying Caesar hears rumours of the existence of an extraordinary healer in Jerusalem going by the name of Jesus.
Departing for the Holy Land in order to be saved by this apparently miraculous man, he is stunned to learn, during a brief rest in the city of Lydda, that Jesus’ crucifixion took place three days prior.
But just when all looks lost, suddenly Tiberius is drawn into the centre of a quite incredible, life-altering encounter.
Stephen Boxer will play Tiberius, with former Doctors co-star Samuel Collings alongside him as Jesus.
