The Golden Hour concerns Adrian, a British triage nurse of Zimbabwean descent working in a London NHS hospital alongside his long-term English girlfriend Jessica. When he encounters an African baby that he suspects has been illegally brought into the country he is drawn into a drama of ethics and loyalty.

Written by award-winning playwright Michael Bhim, The Golden Hour will be rehearsed in just three days and performed with script in hand.

The Golden Hour is performed by Islington-based theatre company Tiata Fahodzi, which aims to produce new work that explores the richness and heritage of theatre sourced from people living in British African communities. Its previous work includes Roy Williams’s Joe Guy (Soho theatre) and Tiata Delights (Almeida theatre).

The Golden Hour plays as part of the Almeida theatre’s 2009 Summer Festival, which also includes Last Seen, Or Nearest Offer, The American Capitalism Project and the Tiata Fahodzi Festival Concert.
