John Tiffany’s multi Tony Award-nominated production of Tennessee Williams’ drama The Glass Menagerie receives an eagerly anticipated West End transfer, nominated for 7 Olivier Awards including Best Revival, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Set Design.
Having won acclaim at the American Repertory Theatre, on Broadway at the Booth Theater and at the Edinburgh International Festival 2016, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child director Tiffany brings his adaptation of Williams’ classic story to the Duke Of York’s Theatre to transport audiences to faded 1930s St Louis.
The play follows former Southern Belle, Amanda Wingfield, who desperately seeks a husband for her fragile daughter Laura, while her son Tom dreams of breaking free from their faded St Louis home. Then a long-awaited ‘gentleman caller’ arrives – with the potential to fulfil, or shatter, the family’s delicate dreams.
A stellar cast stars in this West End transfer, including Cherry Jones and Brian J. Smith reprising their Tony Award-nominated portrayals of Amanda and Gentleman Caller respectively, while Michael Esper and Kate O’Flynn transfer from the Edinburgh production.
