Calixto Bieito directs English National Opera’s first new staging of The Force Of Destiny in more than 20 years.
Set during the 1930s’ Spanish Civil War, Bieito’s production tells the story of youthful lovers Leonora and Alvaro, who have no idea that their feelings for each other will unleash a devastating chain of events as fate takes its inescapable grip on everyone’s lives.
From the opening notes of its famous overture, the opera promises to draw audiences in with its powerful score as it follows the entwined destinies of the central characters.
The Force Of Destiny sees ENO Music Director Mark Wigglesworth conduct Verdi’s sumptuous score and features a world-class cast including star tenor Gwyn Hughes Jones, baritone Anthony Michaels-Moore and soprano Tamara Wilson as Leonora.
The production is sung in English with lyrics projected above the stage.
