The Duenna, a 1775 opera by Thomas Linley and his prodigiously talented son, is presented at the Royal Opera House’s Linbury Studio in a production by English Touring Theatre.
A classic comedy of confused identities, The Duenna centres on Don Jerome, who is determined that his daughter will marry Isaac Mendoza, but she wants Antonio as her husband. With the assistance of her elderly duenna, some coincidences and a few catastrophes, Don Jerome finally gives in to the humour of his own defeat.
