In a celebration of Edward Bond’s work the Lyric have revived three of his one act plays and for two nights only they present the trio in a unique triple bill.

Have I None is set in an apocalyptic world where lives are closely  monitored, living spaces designated and displays of emotion restricted. It’s only when a stranger appears that a couple begin to question their rigid life.

The Under Room, first performed in 2005, sees a woman confronted by a stranger in her cellar. But as he tells his story she finds that the very foundations of her life are challenged.

The Chair, first performed on Radio 4, is set in a society where every act of compassion is a crime and every action outside the norm is suspicious, a society where even the misuse of a chair attracts unwanted attention.

The triple bill is directed by the Lyric’s artistic director Sean Holmes and Edward Bond himself. The plays are also presented as The Chair (11-25 May) and a double bill of Have I None and The Under Room (19 April-5 May).

Edward Bond is one of the UK’s most celebrated modern writers. He is the author of over 50 plays; often controversial, always insightful his work has been some of the most influential of the 20th century.
