The Caravan is an award-winning piece of theatre which dramatises the experiences of those who were forced out of their homes as a consequence of the flooding in Britain in 2007, many of whom had to move into caravans.
Summer 2007 was the wettest on record, leaving 48,000 homes flooded across England. One year on, over 2,200 households were still living in caravans.
Fresh from winning a Fringe First Award at the 2008 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Caravan hears word for word how everyday people cope in a crisis. Some have coped with laughter, some with anger, others haven’t coped at all.
Look Left Look Right, the company behind The Caravan has edited months of research and interviews with those people worst affected into a moving account of the human cost behind the headlines. The interviews are re-enacted by actors, word for word, alongside visual and audio footage inside the caravan. Audiences are also invited to read transcripts and listen to recordings of the full interviews after the performance.
Performances of The Caravan will take place in a caravan parked in Sloane Square opposite the theatre to an audience of eight theatregoers at a time.
