Playwright Anton Chekhov and actress Olga Knipper fell in love in 1898, but were apart for much of their relationship. While he moved south for reasons of health, she performed in the premiere of his plays in Moscow. Their deep love for each other was communicated through letters, which were sent between the two until Chekhov’s death.

Carol Rocamora used these 412 letters as the basis for Your Hand In Mine. Their wit, sadness, humour and longing are all expressed in this two-hander, which also offers an insight into Chekhov’s early productions.

Peter Brook, who directs, last worked in London when his production of Le Costume was seen at the Young Vic in 2003. A legend of the theatrical world, Brook is currently director of Theatre des Bouffes du Nord.
