South African dancer and choreographer Dada Masilo opens Sadler’s Sampled with her interpretation of Swan Lake.
Masilo is one of South Africa’s most renowned choreographers and is well-known for her interpretations of classical ballets including Romeo And Juliet and Carmen.
Her newest creation Swan Lake features a company of 13 male and female African dancers and revisits this the themes, music, tutus and pointes of Tchaikovsky’s great classic through a South African eye.
Giving it a new breath of life, Masilo tackles the issues of sex, gender and homophobia in a country confronting the impact of AIDS on its people.
