Laurence Fox and Jack Huston star in a new stage adaptation of Strangers On A Train at the Gielgud theatre.

Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, which inspired Alfred Hitchcock’s 1951 film, the production tells the story of a seemingly innocent conversation that turns into a deadly nightmare of blackmail and psychological torment for Guy Haines after meeting Charles Bruno on a train.

Best known for his role as DS James Hathaway in detective drama Lewis, Fox was last seen on the London stage in Our Boys at the Duchess theatre, while Huston, also well known for his screen work, namely for his performance in Boardwalk Empire, appeared in the 2002 production of Mrs Warren’s profession alongside Fox.

They are joined in the cast by stage actresses Miranda Raison, last seen in Jez Butterworth’s The River at the Royal Court, and Imogen Stubbs, who most recently appeared in Third Finger, Left Hand at the Trafalgar Studios, as well as screen stars Christian McKay and Downton Abbey’s MyAnna Buring.

The production is directed by acclaimed stage and screen director Robert Allan Ackerman, who returns to the West End for the first time in 12 years, following previous productions of Our Town, When She Danced and Torch Song Trilogy.
