The multi-Olivier Award-winning two-man comedy Stones In His Pockets, which centres on a small Irish town providing extras for a Hollywood film, is revived by the acclaimed director Lindsay Posner at Rose Theatre Kingston.

The story is set in County Kerry, Ireland. A remote rural town is awash with a Hollywood film crew, filming a historical blockbuster on location. Two friends at the centre of the production, Charlie Conlon and Jake Quinn, are employed as extras, along with the majority of the locals.

But Hollywood’s view of a traditional, romanticised Ireland is a long way from the truth. And as cultures come to the fore, Conlon and Quinn take on a whole multitude of extraordinary characters – ranging from the spoilt American starlet to the English director, and the village old-timer.

Hysterically funny, but simultaneously provocative and witty, Stones In His Pockets is an enchanting – and occasionally dark – comedy. Delighting audiences around the world, this play now receives an eagerly-anticipated revival at the Rose Theatre Kingston, starring Kevin Trainor and Owen Sharpe as its larger-than-life two-strong cast.

Lindsay Posner is one of the UK’s most renowned comedy directors, having recently revived plays including God Of Carnage, Noises Off and Curtains. He was Associate Director of the Royal Court Theatre from 1987 – 1992

Stones In His Pockets premiered in Belfast in 1996, before transferring to the West End in 2000. There, it won two Olivier Awards – for Best New Comedy and Best Actor (Conleth Hill) – and enjoyed a well-earned four-year run. Hill and Campion later took the acclaimed show to Broadway, where it garnered three Tony Award nominations.
