Stockwell is a dramatisation of the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes, shot and killed by police in Stockwell tube station two weeks after the 7/7 London tube bombings in 2005.
Weaving together the diverse voices of the inquest’s many witnesses, Stockwell is an urgent and compelling verbatim work that charts the desperate acceleration towards one of the most controversial moments in the history of the Metropolitan Police.
In addition to exploring the sequence of events that led to the fatal shooting, the play also paints a vivid portrait of a city still in shock from the suicide bombs of previous weeks and a jittery and overstretched police force agonising over its methods and ability to prevent further terror.
This production is a transfer from the Landor theatre.
