Having been founded in only 1988, Singapore Dance Theatre has rocketed to prominence within the dance world. Already considered a dance establishment, they have a wide ranging classical repertoire, but visit the Peacock with three eclectic pieces of contemporary work.

Birds Of Paradise is a beautiful example of the work for which Singapore Dance Theatre are renowned. Set to Ginastera’s Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, the piece finds dancers taking to the stage as frightened bird-esque creatures.

Birds Of Paradise is followed by Maninyas, a series of pas de deux and pas de trois by Australian choreographer Stanton Welch.

The final piece, The Lost Space, was inspired by both Indonesian traditions and Minangkabau martial arts. Boi Sakti’s work is full of symbolism as dancers create and recreate their own space on stage.
