Keith Warner’s new production of Wagner’s epic Ring Cycle, which began last season, continues with the third opera, Siegfried.
Siegfried struggles against the deceptions of Mime to discover who he truly is. Facing and killing the dragon Fafner he claims both the magic ring and tarnhelm, before facing a disguised Wotan and awakening Brunnhilde from her enforced sleep, discovering in himself both fear and love.
John Treleaven returns to the Royal Opera House to play Siegfried, while new operatic knight Sir John Tomlinson plays Wotan’s alter-ego The Wanderer. Antonio Pappano conducts.
Sung in German with English surtitles.
