A sideways look at the secretive lives of circus clowns, Ruby And The Big Top captures both the fun and the harsher traditions of the shadowy world of circus life. Ruby drifts back in time recalling her traumatic youth in the 1930s circus ring where chief clown Pucko’s terrific laughter turns into Ruby’s trauma. Through slapstick and phyiscal humour Ruby and her fellow clowns show the audience how fierce the competition is to stay in the spotlight and how their on and off stage lives collide and conflict.
Created by Bea Theatre and performed by six dance actors who have all worked with Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures.
