The Park Theatre hosts the UK premiere of the gripping musical Rothschild & Sons, the incredible story of a family willing to risk everything.
Starring Tony Award nominee Robert Cuccioli in his London theatre debut, Rothschild & Sons is the remarkable tale of how a father, mother and their sons overcame all manner of obstacles and prejudices, struggling against extraordinary odds on their way to changing the world.
Rothschild & Sons is set in their humble beginnings in Germany, a Jewish ghetto in Frankfurt. Mayer Rothschild (Cuccioli) is an ambitious young merchant whose dreams are weighed down by the prejudices that surround him.
But through his sharp wit, instinct and perseverance, Mayer and his family transform themselves into the heads of an international banking empire serving the royal courts of Europe. But can they tear down the walls of the ghetto?
Broadway songwriters Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock (Fiddler On The Roof), and Tony-nominated writer Sherman Yellen, chart the family’s efforts to clamber from poverty to a global banking empire.
The musical made its Broadway debut in 1970, before being revived on Off-Broadway in 1990. Inspired by the book The Rothschilds by Frederic Morton, this new production of Rothschild & Sons includes several never-before-heard songs, as the story makes its thrilling UK premiere.
Rothschild & Sons lead Cuccioli previously made his Broadway debut as Inspector Javert in Les Misérables, while Glory Crampton, who plays his wife Gutele, is a renowned actress on the Broadway scene, having performed the role of Christine in The Phantom Of The Opera as well as starring in Carousel and Guys And Dolls. Their son Nathan is portrayed by Trainor, whose previous credits include School Of Rock The Musical in the West End.
Described as “A Must Have Ticket” by the New York Times, this is a fittingly spectacular musical with which to open the new Park Theatre season.
