Belarus Free Theatre returns to the Young Vic with Red Forest, a new show that explores the profound impact of environmental change through the lens of local myths and legends.
In 1986 Chernobyl, the radiation from the nuclear reactor explosion spread across Belarus, Ukraine, Scandinavia and Western Europe, and the forests downwind turned a brilliant red. Nearly 30 years later it remains one of the most contaminated areas in the world today.
Incorporating live music and choreography with true stories and native folklore from Belarus, Brazil, Nigeria and India, Red Forest weaves together a tapestry of stories to create a new legend of man and nature.
