Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice is one of the UK’s best-loved novels, made more famous still for its screen adaptations including the 1990s television serial which starred Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.
The story follows the lives and loves of the five Bennet sisters in their pursuit of suitable husbands, set in an age when marriage was a serious matter.
On first meeting the handsome Mr Darcy, Elizabeth Bennet finds him arrogant and conceited. When he persuades his friend Bingley to break off a budding relationship with her beloved sister Jane, she dislikes him even more. But is he really the villain she thinks he is? Jane Austen shows us the folly of judging by first impressions, whilst poking gentle fun at the affectations and etiquette of provincial middle class life.
This new stage adaptation stars Susan Hampshire as Mrs Bennet, who is determined to marry off all five daughters.
