When Frank turns up at the roadside cafe of Greek immigrant Nick and his wife Cora, it has a devastating effect on the couple’s lives. The affair that Frank and Cora embark upon ends in murder, double-crossing and some rather unethical courtroom dealings.
James M Cain’s 1930s thriller, in a new adaptation by Andrew Rattenbury, was released as a film in 1946 and again in 1981, this time with Jack Nicholson as Frank. At the Playhouse, Hollywood heart-throb Val Kilmer (Batman Forever, Top Gun, Heat, True Romance) takes the role of Frank, opposite Charlotte Emmerson as Cora.
