The Involunteers, a collection of individuals from around the world, have come together to undertake one ambitious investigation into spoken English and its accents. It looks at the relationship between spoken language and our emotions, our identity, our culture and our body. Canonical texts provide the matter for their explorations – in their hands (and mouths) Oscar Wilde’s The Importance Of Being Earnest is played out in Russian… with an English accent. Language becomes a cultural weapon and a secret game in which no one is quite sure of the rules.
This is a Scratch performance allowing the artists to experiment with new material and receive feedback from the audience.
