Set in Kansas, the geological centre of the United States of America, the three Springer children are left alone after a tornado hits their farm. One by one, three visitors arrive bringing magic and madness into the household. A new family forms and shatters as a battle for the soul of America is waged in mud, fossils, eggs and flour, music and light. Drawn from Mid-West mythologies ranging from The Wizard of Oz and Intelligent Design to the liberal obsession with Bobby Kennedy’s assassination, Particularly In The Heartland combines a gently absurdist kitchen sink realism with dreamy magical sequences. Both critique and love song, this is a play about losing sight of America and trying to fall back in love with it.
