Christopher Alden’s Olivier Award-winning comic masterpiece Partenope returns to the London Coliseum for its first revival.
Partenope’s beauty attracts many suitors, including Arsace, Armindo and Emilio. Indeed, her allure is such that her suitors have themselves spurned other would-be lovers, including Rosmira, who pines after her Arsace – and subsequently dresses up as a man to become another suitor of Partenope.
As the exploits of four rival suitors escalate in pursuit of Partenope’s love, romance, glittering arias and wonderful ensembles overlap to masterful comic effect.
With designs inspired by the surrealist imagery of Man Ray, and baroque specialist Christian Curnyn conducting a world-class cast, this is a hilarious spectacle not to be missed.
