Widely regarded as one of the greatest classical ballet companies in the world, this is the first time in over 20 years that the Paris Opera Ballet has visited London. Sadler’s Wells is delighted to be able to host this historic company as they perform Angelin Preljocaj’s Le Parc.

Preljocaj is one of Europe’s most intriguing choreographers; infinitely creative and highly distinct. His full-length contemporary ballet, Le Parc, is a grand scale exploration of sensuality in the 17th Century. Created at the Palais Garnier in 1994, Le Parc is inspired by the pure geometry of 17th Century gardens, the Countess de La Fayette’s La Princesse de Clèves and Laclos’ Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

Set to some of Mozart’s most beautiful piano concertos mixed with electronic sounds, Le Parc is a hymn to love and erotic feelings, following their development from first encounters to resistance, conquest and consummation.

Huge wooden cage-like structures, reminiscent of tree houses, and a wonderful cloudscape backdrop by Jacques Chatelet complement the opulent costumes and formal patterns created by the dancers.
