ENO celebrates the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth with the Bard’s great tragedy of deception, love and jealousy.
Set on the Cypriot coast, Otello sees the Moorish army general of its title and his new wife Desdemona destroyed by the manipulative Captain Iago. The tale of betrayed friendship is brought to life through some of Verdi’s most powerful and tender music.
The production is directed by David Alden, who returns to the London Coliseum following his recent production of Peter Grimes. He is reunited with his Peter Grimes collaborators Edward Gardner and tenor Stuart Skelton, who sings Otello for the first time.
Otello is sung and surtitled in English.
