Orwell – A Celebration is an evening recognising the work of 20th century author George Orwell.

Telegraph critic Dominic Cavendish’s stage adaptation of Orwell’s Coming Up For Air premiered last year and is now revived at Trafalgar Studios to mark the 70th anniversary of the novel’s publication. The piece, which displays the famous writer’s great gift for comedy, is set on the brink of the Second World War when George Bowling, a middle-aged insurance worker, flees the suburbs for the countryside of his youth.

Orwell – A Celebration also features excerpts from the author’s seminal work Nineteen Eighty-Four, and performances of his essays Shooting An Elephant and A Hanging.

A programme of readings and discussions complements Orwell – A Celebration during the show’s month-long run at Trafalgar Studios.  All profits benefit human rights group Liberty and The Orwell Prize.
