ROH2 has commissioned an exciting array of composers and writers to tackle head on what opera is and what it might become in the 21st century. These new OperaShots come from names famous outside the world of opera, with unexpected subjects and novel approaches.
The Tell-Tale Heart brings together Edgar Allan Poe’s gothic horror and ex-Police drummer Stewart Copeland, while The Doctor’s Tale, from composer Anne Dudley (The Full Monty, The Art of Noise) and librettist Terry Jones (Monty Python), unveils a Python-esque story of a doctor whose devoted patients rush to the rescue after he is forced to stop practising.
