In 2008 Only Men Aloud! entered the UK’s biggest choir competition to date Last Choir Standing. After battling through the rounds, Only Men Aloud! gave some incredible performances and after an all Welsh final were crowned the winners.
Only Men Aloud! was started in 2000 by Tim Rhys-Evans who wanted to create a young male voice choir unafraid to tackle music not usually performed by traditional male voice choirs. Consisting of teachers, musicians, students, a gardener and a pharmacist Only Men Aloud’s repertoire ranges from the 15th century to current day. Rhys-Evans believes there should be no barriers placed on choral singing and wants to prove to audiences that choirs can be fresh and funky.
Only Men Aloud! has performed regularly on BBC Radio 4 and Songs Of Praise plus in 2003 won the male choir category in the inaugural year of S4Cs Cor Cymru.
Since winning Last Choir Standing, Only Men Aloud!’s fan base has exploded and now includes fans from around the world including countries such as China.
