Michael Begley and June Watson star in BAFTA nominated writer Martyn Hesford’s funny and poetic two-hander about the life of English artist L S Lowry.

Set in 1934, Mrs Lowry And Son tells the story of Laurie, a 47-year-old rent collector living at home with his elderly, bedridden mother. As he strives to pursue his passion for painting while his mother is asleep, when awake she remains intent on ridiculing is works, believing them to revel in the vulgarity of Pendlebury.

TMA Award nominated actor Begley was last seen on the London stage in Marianne Elliott’s production of Sweet Bird Of Youth at the Old Vic theatre. While he has also appeared on stage in productions including If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet at the Bush theatre and The Arsonists at the Royal Court, on screen he is best known for his roles in Martin Clunes-led romantic comedy drama William And Mary and police series City Central.

Watson, who recently starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe in The Cripple Of Inishmaan, has performed extensively on the London stage, appearing in numerous productions at the National Theatre as well as West End productions of Uncle Vanya, Mary Stuart and Smaller.

Directed by Abbey Wright, Mrs Lowry And Son is a blistering, funny and poetic play exploring love, mortality and childhood in which the mother-son relationship of its title is laid bare and the inklings of Laurie’s future success are continually dashed by his mother’s furious rejection.
