The classic William Shakespeare play about fairies, love, adventure and mischief, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, comes to the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre as part of their 2019 summer season.
Consisting of four interlinked plots, join the characters of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in their mythical forest in the realm of Fairyland, as Theseus, the Duke of Athens prepares to marry Hippolyta, the former queen of the Amazons.
While the wedding celebrations are underway, mayhem and mischief unfold around them, as four Athenian lovers get lost in the woods, and six amateur actors rehearse the play they’re due to perform at the wedding. But unbeknown to them all, they’re all being manipulated and played around with by the fairies who live in the forest.
One of Shakespeare’s most loved and performed pieces, expect live music, playful adventure and physical invention, as the lovers’ world is transformed into a place of magic, laughter and healing, as we journey into the woods.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream will star RSC actress Amber James (Troilus And Cressida) as Hippolyta/Titania, alongside Kieran Hill (Votes For Women, New Vic Theatre) as Theseus/Oberon, Susan Wokoma (Labour Of Love, West End) as Bottom, and Myra McFayden (A Christmas Carol, Old Vic) as Puck.
The show will be directed by Dominic Hill, the Artistic Director of the Citizens Theatre in Glasgow. His previous theatre credits include: Cyrano de Bergerac (Citizens Theatre, Glasgow/Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh/National Theatre of Scotland); Long Day’s Journey Into Night (Citizens Theatre, Glasgow/HOME Manchester); Cinderella, The Macbeths (Scottish tour); Oresteia (Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland (CATS) winner, Best Director; Edinburgh International Festival); and Hay Fever (Citizens Theatre, Glasgow/Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh).
A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be on at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre from 28 June 2019 – 27 July 2019.
