Verdi’s version of Shakespeare’s spooky tragedy was originally written to create ‘something out of the ordinary’ on the operatic stage.
Macbeth, spurred on by his ambitious and manipulative wife, starts a killing spree he cannot control in his quest to gain power. Verdi’s score grants the wierd sisters a macabre chorus and increases the role played by Lady Macbeth.
Sung in Italian with English surtitles.
