Poetic tragedy Macbeth brings its own brutal form of the arcane to the Wonder Season at Shakespeare’s Globe, telling the tale of a seemingly unstoppable rise to power for the eponymous soldier and his ruthless wife.

On a barren heath, three wicked sisters depict their vision of the titular great warrior’s future: that he is destined to become King of Scotland.

Triggering a terrifying crescendo to power, instigated in no small part by the callously ambitious Lady Macbeth, a murderous string of events is set into motion which promise Macbeth ultimately glory – in exchange for soul-corroding sacrifices.

With its own unique form of atmospheric intensity,  Shakespeare’s Globe hosts this cycle of wondrous horrors to reveal Shakespeare’s most unsettling engagement with the supra-natural and the nature of evil.
