Shakespeare’s Globe teams up with the Royal Opera for a production of Francesco Cavalli’s 1644 opera L’Ormindo that draws on the conventions in London at the time of its original staging.

Directed by the Royal Opera’s Director Kasper Holten, L’Ormindo allows audiences the rare treat of discovering the tale of jealous lovers, elopement and the intervention of fortune and destiny in English.

L’Ormindo was first staged at the Teatro San Cassiano in Venice in 1644. The piece is performed by nine singers and eight musicians.
