Les Liaisons Dangereuses is Christopher Hampton’s award-winning adaptation of Choderlos de Laclos’ 1782 novel about the rampant promiscuity and moral ambivalence among the aristocracy in 18th-Century France. The play tells the tale of the sexually-charged power struggle between the Marquise de Merteuil (played here by Polly Walker) and the dashingly scurrilous Vicomte de Valmont (portrayed here by Jared Harris, son of Richard.).
Polly Walker, who has starred in the films Control (opposite Willem Dafoe, now in post-production), Patriot Games, Restoration, Sliver, Emma and Enchanted April and, on television plays State of Play. Jared Harris has appeared in the films Sylvia (opposite Gwyneth Paltrow, opening in the UK in January), Resident Evil, The Other Boleyn Girl, Igby Goes Down, I Shot Andy Warhol and Smoke. Emilia Fox, star of numerous films and television series including Rebecca, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), The Pianist and Henry VIII, plays La Présidente de Tourvel.
The cast also features Jeremy Edwards, star of Hollyoaks and Holby City, as Azolan; Dilys Laye, who has worked extensively with the RSC and in many television series, plays Madame de Rosemonde; Olivia Llewellyn as Cécile Volanges; Sean Oliver plays Major Domo; Laurence Penry-Jones, star of Doctors, The Forsyte Saga, Midsomer Murders and A Life in the Theatre, plays Danceny; Sarah Woodward, daughter of Edward and star of West End productions of The Real Thing and Wild Oats and 1998 Olivier Award-winning actress for Tom and Clem, plays Madame de Volanges.
