The greatest engineers and artists create new shapes and relationships between materials. They deal, like artists, in form, balance, tension and power. Leonardo da Vinci painted wonderful pictures and made marvellous machines. But then he was a genius! Leonardo, an inventor, builds a machine. He uses simple engineering elements such as levers, gears and pulleys and gets motive power from falling weights. As each new section of the machine emerges, we learn more about Leonardo’s life as he is visited by some of the most influential figures of the times. At the end of the performance, the working machine is revealed… For everyone aged 9–12 years old. Suitable for Years 5–7.
