Following a sold-out run at the National Theatre, where it was nominated for five Olivier Awards including Best New Play and Best Director (for Sam Mendes), the critically acclaimed The Lehman Trilogy, directed by Sam Mendes, is playing at the Piccadilly Theatre until 31 August.

The story of a family and a company that changed the world, told in three parts on a single evening. Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Dominik Tiefenthaler play the Lehman Brothers, their sons and grandsons.

On a cold September morning in 1844 a young man from Bavaria stands on a New York dockside. Dreaming of a new life in the new world. He is joined by his two brothers and an American epic begins. 163 years later, the firm they establish – Lehman Brothers – spectacularly collapses into bankruptcy, and triggers the largest financial crisis in history.

Sam Mendes returned to the National Theatre to direct Ben Power’s English version of Stefano Massini’s vast and poetic play, a hit across Europe. It’s huge acclaim – and five nominations at the 2019 Olivier Awards with Mastercard – is testament to its immense power.

The Lehman Trilogy is, quite simply, a must-see.
