Jules Massenet’s one-act chamber opera Le Portrait De Manon was composed for the Opera Comique, ten years after the premiere of Manon and is a sequel to his earlier success, set to a libretto by Georges Boyer.
Hector Berlioz composed the song cycle Les Nuits D’été in 1840-41 for mezzo-soprano and tenor with piano accompaniment. The poems come from a collection by Theophile Gautier, entitled La Comedie De La Mort (The Comedy Of Death).
