Shakespeare’s tale is relocated to Russia, where the aspirations of a bored housewife have terrible consequences.
When Richard Jones’s production was originally staged, it won the 2005 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Opera. Original cast members John Tomlinson, Christopher Ventris, Roderick Earle and Maxim Mikhailov return to the production.
