Ellida feels trapped. Married to widower, Dr Wangle, with two children from his first marriage and obsessed with a love from her past, she has a choice to make. In a world where morality is very strict and society is very judgemental she must decide which life she wants to live.

The Lady from the Sea will be Sir Trevor Nunn’s first production after leaving the National Theatre where he has been artistic director since 1997. Dubbed ‘the people’s director’ Nunn’s credits include Les Misérables, Cats, Starlight Express and My Fair Lady, and more recently  Anything Goes and Love’s Labour’s Lost, his farewell productions at the National, Olivier.

This production is in a new version by Pam Gems, whose other adaptations include Uncle Vanya, The Seagull and Yerma. She has also written original plays such as Marlene, Stanley and Piaf.
